My Dog Has Lymphoma What Can I Do

the shanty towns of Ndola: The sad reality 'of the urban periphery.

Since I moved from rural area to the city ', I came in contact with reality' is completely different. In
campaigns there 'great poverty' but people keep balance the concept of dignity 'and tries to move forward as it may,' working the fields, producing coal, raising chickens, looking for to create a minimum income at least sufficient for the needs of the family. The people retain their core membership, be it family or tribe ', and follows the laws or rules, however, guaranteed by the Chief (chieftain'), allowing coexistence "civilian" and a low incidence of crime '. The city
' , by contrast, is the destination for all those who leave the countryside in search of fortune, job, a better fututro. Unfortunately, however, 'urban centers do not bring work and dignity for all, but ... the people, jobless and aimless, accumulates in the suburbs trsformate in large slums, called "shanty compounds" . The
compounds, which usually have a population of between 10,000 and 40,000 inhabitants, created in the past as illegal settlements, suffer yet the lack of basic infrastructure like clean water, sewerage, roads, schools and health posts.

Although many compounds have been surveyed over the years and legalized, others continue to rise due to the progressive abandonment of rural villages: so we see 'clusters of dilapidated barracks, where conditions life are sometimes sub-human, and where each type of abuse, physical, moral and social, is an ideal environment for spread. This 'more that' strikes and 'not so much poverty' as the degradation .

It 's not possible to cultivate the land in the city' earth there is none '. And then you have to buy everything, even a little 'corn or flour, even the vegetables ... everything! And so 'the hunger is rampant, along with the dirt . The open sewers, where children play and get wet, they become a vehicle for serious infections, especially during the rainy season, a period in which it is not ' uncommon to even cases of cholera. The garbage piled everywhere and children play there in the midst of promoting the spread of infectious diseases , especially considering that the lack of water supply, also makes it difficult to maintain a minimum of personal hygiene. Scabies, intestinal parasites, fungi are practically on the agenda, together, of course, malaria, a disease typical of Zambia to the climatic and environmental characteristics of the country.

Is there really a lot to do but gotta start somewhere. With our
Association Twafwane - Mayo-Mwana Project we started working on the territory that is with the families.

First, in collaboration with social services, we selected 13 boys compounds to aid in further study , paying for their tuition and buying books and everything you need to attend school. These are in addition to 10 other students who are helping in the rural area and in town '.

We made an accurate assessment of the condition of the families (family assessment) so as to understand the way in which families can be supported so that 'the boys are not sent to work and then forced to neglect their studies. All families, such as images, called for a type of food aid .

Each family receives a monthly bag of maize meal for 25 pounds, two pounds of sugar, two and a half liters of oil, a kilo of dried fish ( Kapenta ) and two pounds of beans. Families with small children also receive milk.

Other families of compounds have been helped with small loans granted without interest, of course, in order to help them set up a small business' that enables them to earn some money. There are usually required for loans put on 'a chicken coop, a ntemba or other small business' of trade in fish and rice, which are bought on the border with Tanzania, and then sold in Zambia.

In place we are considering the local conditions for choosing the areas that are completely uncovered by health care.
Now, some photos taken in compounds Signa, Nkwazi, Kantolomba, Pamodzi and Chipulukusu . I believe that the images are more 'eloquent than words ...

WHAT WOULD NOT FOR A CANDY ...

Per tutte le nostre attivita' sul territorio sono straordinariamente aiutata da due giovanissimi collaboratori: Peter Ndunduma e Patrick Kunda.
